1 & Two,s - Finals Night

MOORE TAKES FIRST TITLE
The finals of the, 1 & Two,s competition took place Sunday night at The Bridge House.
I am pleased to say that we saw some excellent pool being played from the Quarter Finals, up until the
Final itself.

Congratulations must go to the winner, Craig Moore [pow] who played the best pool on the night, and
was a deserved winner of the competition.
Craig, conducted himself impressively throughout the competition, and emerged as the outstanding player
to pick up his £70.00 winnings at the end of this new BAPL event.

Commiserations goes to, Matt Andrews [bridge] who played well throughout the competition but, I am
sure by his own admission, probably fell short of his usual standard of play in the final itself.
Matt, did however pick up £30.00 for his troubles and showed throughout the competition what he is
capable of on the green baize.

For most of the players this was a new experience for them, playing in a competitive competition, with a
cash prize waiting to be collected at the end of it.
I have to say that, even though I am sure that the players who fell at the first hurdle at the Quarter Final
stage, were disappointed, they conducted themselves superbly, with no silly tantrums, or blaming anyone
but themselves, which you see some of the, so called, top players do so often.

It did make a nice change.

Quarter Finals

Terry Williams, was first through to book his place in the Semi Finals with an impressive, 3-0 win over the
up and coming, Liam Kimpton.

Kimpton, put up a brave fight, but couldn't contain the sheer potting power of a clearly talented, Williams.

On the other table, Colin Hopton, was taking care of proceedings against, Andy Rowbotham.

Rowbotham, who sailed through the group stages, struggled this time to recapture the form of a couple of
weeks ago and, Hopton, took advantage by winning the match 3-1.

Matt Andrews was next up against, free potting, Paul Fletcher.

Fletcher, was having the same problem as, Rowbotham, and was struggling to find his top form.

Andrews, hit the ground running and run out with a 3-0 victory.

The last match in the Quarters was billed as the tie of the round.

Alec Teideman, who had won his group the previous week at a canter, was paired with another one of the
peoples favourites to win the competition, Craig Moore.
It was a close match, where if, Teideman, had taken his chances, then we may have had a different
outcome.
It was, Moore, though who came through, playing some pool that was now becoming familiar with the
watching crowd of onlookers, as he picked off, Teidemans mistakes and won the match 3-1.

Semi Finals
Colin Hopton, gave, Matt Andrews, a scare by storming into a 2-0 lead before, Andrews, clicked into
gear with not only his potting ability, but also his tactical side of the game.

Andrews, closed the games out with a 4-2 win and booked his place in the final.

In the other Semi, we had a serious contest on our hands as, the extremely dangerous, Terry Williams,
was going, toe to toe, with tournament prodigy, Craig Moore.

It was, Williams, who took, Moore, by the throat, and stormed into an emphatic 3-0 lead.

It was looking like a formality with, Williams, warming his seat up for his place in the final against,
Andrews.

Moore, though was having none of it, and showed that he had as strong mental side to his game.

There was no panic from, Moore, he stayed as composed as ever and clawed a game back.

It took a brave man to go for the clearance in the next frame, but, Moore, pulled it off, with, what looked
like relative ease, to go to 3-2.

A tactical encounter in the sixth frame looked as if, Williams, had things under control.

In his eagerness to wrap up the match, Williams, went for the killer shot too early, and Moore, was in
again, punching the air after sinking the Black Ball, and setting up an extremely tense final frame.

Again it looked as if, Williams, was going to win this epic encounter, but his adrenalin was in overdrive,
and he lost position on his last shot before the Black.
Moore, again, seized on a glorious opportunity to pot his last three balls to win the match, and against all
the odds, take his place in the final showdown against, Andrews.

Credit to both players here. They both played some superb pool under enormous pressure, and it was a
shame that one of them had to go out.
Brilliant entertainment from the pair of them.

The Final
So we were finally down to the last two remaining players who had battled their way to the pinnacle of the
competition.

Matt Andrews, who is a well known and popular player around the BAPL, and is also known as a very
useful pool player.
He showed this last year in the, BAPL Singles KO, by knocking out, Kev Bassett, who was one of the
favourites at the time to win the competition.

Craig Moore? I had only heard of him through his team captain, Mark Poole, who had told me of his
potential, and that I should look out for him in this competition.

I could hardly miss him, very impressive.

Moore, had just come through a very exciting Semi Final, and was absolutely buzzing.

He stormed into a 2-0 lead and, Andrews, looked as if he was struggling to contain the , Moore, onslaught.

Credit to, Andrews, though as he held in there to pull the next frame back to make it 2-1.

Andrews, looked as if he was starting to go through the gears and but for missing his last Red in the next
game, he would of drew the match level.

Moore, though, was looking as if he fancied this, big time.

Again he seized on his opponents mistake and took out an impressive clearance to go 3-1 ahead.

Moore, looked, composed and relaxed, as he dominated the table to go 4-1 in front, and was now within
one game of taking the first, 1 & Two,s title.

Andrews, continued to soldier on, but looked as if he was struggling to find his true form. Whether this was
down to his own playing ability, or down to who he was playing against, only he could answer that question?

Andrews, broke down with a chance to pull another frame back in the next game, and Moore, was in again.

Moore, closed the match out with another emphatic clearance, taking a deep breath, before downing the final
Black Ball in the bottom pocket to win the match 5-1.

Results and group stage reports can be viewed on the - 1 & Two,s page -

The BAPL would like to thank The Bridge House, for hosting The 1 & Two,s competition over the past three
weeks, and also for laying on some delicious food for all of the players involved.

The BAPL would also like to thank the players themselves who, without any doubt made the competition a
huge success.

The feedback that I have received has been extremely encouraging.

I would also like to thank, Bracknell & Berkshire County [a] team player, Carl James, for coming down for
the Finals Night and giving me a hand to run it.

The players were very pleased to see him there, and, Carl, gave them some valuable advice throughout the
evening.

This was also a bit of an eye opener for myself, as it gave me a glimpse of what players we have coming
through the lower BAPL Divisions.

What I saw was players with a stack of enthusiasm for the game, and a select few names who I think the
BAPL are going to hear about a lot more of, in the, not to distant future.
Not just the players who made it to the final stages of the competition, but also some of the players who
went out in the group stages as well.

They may not of performed on the day, but the potential is clearly there.

These and other competitions will continue to run throughout the year and all BAPL players will be welcome
to enter, so please keep an eye on this site for more info.

You will be informed by your team captains.

There will will be a, Mini Comp, held next Sunday 5th February.

This will be followed by a larger competition, the following week.

Look out for details on this page.

The BAPL have received a £50.00 fine by the RBCPA [Royal Berkshire County Pool Association].

for their 2011 registration. This totalled a further £88.00

On the subject of paying out money.

The response to the new Divisions 1 & 2 Pool Competition at the Bridge House this Sunday has been
outstanding.

Thanks to everyone who has entered the competition.

Due to the heavy interest in the competition, we will now have to divide the players into 2 groups and
run it over two evenings. This Sunday the 15th being Group 1 and then the following
Sunday the 22nd being Group 2.

The format for the competition will be on a league basis, so everyone in their groups will play against
each other.

The number of games will be decided when we have the final numbers for the competition.

At the moment every player should be guaranteed to play at least 10 games in the competition on one
night. [as long as time permits]

Please note that the competition will be starting at 6.30pm this Sunday, and not 7pm as previously
stated.
Please try to be at the venue for 6pm as we will be starting at 6.30pm sharp. We will have a lot of
games to get through.

The opening matches will be printed on this page, sometime during Sunday afternoon.

There is is still time to enter this competition if you want to, but please hurry.

Details are in the next section below.

The Deadline will be 6pm Saturday evening.

DIV 1 & 2 COMP AT THE BRIDGE HOUSE
The BAPL will be holding a One Night Singles KO at the Bridge House this Sunday.

The competition will be open only to BAPL players who play in Divisions 1 & 2

The Competition will start at 7pm sharp.

Entry fees will be £5.00 per player.

Tables will be on free play.

All entry monies will be paid out to the winner and runner up. [maybe Semi Finalists as well]

I think that most Division One & Two captains have now been contacted and made aware of this event.
Thanks to those of you who have responded.
We should have a reasonable turn out, though please note that entries will be limited depending on
numbers.

If we do have more entries than needed, then a second competition will take place the following week.

Note, that only BAPL registered players, who play in teams in Division One and Two in the BAPL may
enter this competition.

Please note that no Premier League players will be allowed to enter this new
competition.

There will be competitions to follow where Premier players will be able to enter.

The competition format will be decided once we know how many entries we have.

Whatever the format is, we will try to make sure that all players who enter, get to play a maximum
amount of games.

For example, you wont play a couple of games, lose those games, and be out of the competition.

The idea of these competitions is to get more of the lower league players to play against each other, and
give them a chance for some personal glory in the BAPL.

Most BAPL competitions are usually dominated by the Premier League players, and so they should be,
thats why they play in the Premier Division. This is a chance for the players in, Divisions One and Two,
to shine.

This will also be a perfect opportunity for some of the newer players in the BAPL to come along and
brush up on their knowledge of the league rules.
I know that some of the new teams are still trying to learn, The World Rules, so please come along and
throw your questions at us.

There will be senior players there on the night to answer any of your queries.

More info will follow about this new competition towards the end of the week, where we will hopefully
be listing the runners for the first comp on Sunday.

The competition format will also be available by then as well.

If you are interested in entering the competition this Sunday then please contact –

In the Doubles, Kilgour/Bryant [gyp] will have to be on their game against the up and coming,
Teideman brothers [bh]

Harling/Allsop [wt] face a daunting trip to the Crown Wood to face, Johnson/Hancock, as do Evans/Palmer [gyp]
who also go to the Crown to take on, King/Astle.

LEAGUE TEAM KO –
MINNOWS GEARED UP FOR PREM CHALLENGE

This week sees the start of the BAPL Team KO Competition.

The draw has thrown together some blood thirsty ties, where some of the Premier teams will be hoping
that they will not end up on the end of a giant killing, from one of the lower division teams.

Cup holders, Twigg Gypos face the first banana skin against high flying Division One team,
The Three Brewers.
Newcomers in the BAPL, The British Legion, who are having a bit of a struggle at the bottom of Div 2,
should be relishing a trip to Premier outfit, Bridge House [b] to see if they can cause a major upset.

The Boot [b] team face a tough trip to the Sandhurst Sports Club, whilst Div 2 highflyers, The Bull,
should be chomping at the bit, with a chance to take down Premier stragglers, The Sun.

The Royal Oak, get to have a crack at the Crown Wood, who will have to be on their metal to fend off
any, cup exit embarrassment, and the fast improving, Woodcutters, from Div 2, may fancy their chances
against Premier veterans, The Green Man Old Boys

Div 2 pacesetters, Newtown Pippin [b] get the only, potential giantkiller, home draw, and the Prems,
Squirrels, have the daunting prospect of having to travel there, and try and come away with any shreds
of respectability.

The Tie of the round is probably the all Premier clash between, William Twigg [a] & Sandhurst Club
which could go close if Sandhurst are on their game.

The full draw can be either viewed below. or on the – League Cup Draws page -

Good luck to all teams involved.

SINGLES & DOUBLES Draws
The First Round Draws for the Singles, Doubles & Captains has been made, and will be printed as soon
as everyone who has entered the competitions, have paid their entry fees.

who needs them in the BAPL, sometime this week.

WINTER LEAGUE
Premier Division
Premier League champions, Newtown Pippin [a] continue to impress as they have started the season
with four wins from four games, and are looking good to retain their title.

William Twigg [a] are the only other team in the Premier still not to lose a game.

Big game next week as The Twigg and The Pippin clash in the league.

The Bridge [b] are looking strong at home as they retain third spot, whilst The Sandhurst Club have
shot up the table after a couple of good wins.

The Sandhurst Sports Club are looking comfortable this season after seeing off The Crown Wood last
week, and at the same time sending The Crown plummeting down the table. The Crown will be looking
to pick things up against The Squirrels next week.

The Sun remain rooted to the bottom of the table, and will be keen to pick up some points this week in
a tough match against The Sandhurst Club.

Division One

The Bridge House [a] are the new pacesetters in Division One after overcoming previous leaders,
The Three Brewers with an impressive 9-3 victory last week.
The Bridge team are looking good this season and will looking forward to testing their metal with a tough
trip away to the Mollys [b] next week.

The Boot [a] & [b] teams are keeping a close eye on the goings on at the top of the table, and will no
doubt be waiting for their moment to take advantage of any, slip ups, by the teams above them.

Please note that The Admiral Cunningham have failed to show for any of their games this season,
so it looks like, unfortunately, they will have to be thrown out of the BAPL.

Division Two

The Newtown Pippin [b] remain undefeated in Division Two as they look to bounce straight back to
Division One after their relegation last season.
An emphatic 10-2 victory at newcomers, Fox & Hounds, saw them open up an 8 point gap at the top of the
league.

The Bull, have put together a couple of wins over the last couple of weeks, which has catapulted them up
the table in to second spot.
They will be looking to capitalise on their good form with a win against fellow newcomers to the BAPL,
The Village Inn, next week.

The Village, may have something to say about that though.

The Prince of Wales and The Woodcutters have picked things up, and will be looking to push the teams
above them with wins next week.

The Golden Farmer have stuttered slightly after a promising start and now face a tough test next week as
they travel to table toppers, Pippin [b]

The Fox & Hounds and The British Legion, look to be finding things tough going at the moment, but will
know they have plenty of time to turn things around.

SINGLES & DOUBLES COMPS

The draws for the first rounds of the Singles, Doubles, Captains and Team Ko,s competitions, will take
place this week on Wednesday evening at, The Bridge House around 7.30pm.

Anyone who would like to attend the draw, will be more than welcome to do so.

THE ISLE OF WIGHT v BRACKNELL & ASCOT

The Isle of Wight captain has been in contact with the BAPL, and we are hoping to get a match arranged
for some time early in the new year.

BAPL players will be contacted in due course to see if they would like to play for Bracknell against
The Isle of Wight County Pool Team.

OUTSTANDING FIXTURES

Molly Millars [b] v Molly Millars

Division Two 17/11/11

Crown Wood SC v British Legion

WINTER LEAGUE

Premier Division

Reigning Premier League champions, Newtown Pippin [a], have got off to a positive start to
the season with two straight wins, as they look to defend the title which they won in such
thrilling circumstances at the finally of last season.

The Crown Wood and the William Twigg [a] have both also started well with 100% records at
the start of the season.

Its slightly surprising to see that both, The Sun and The Sandhurst Club, have got off to a slow
start, and will need to kick on and find some form in the coming weeks.

Division One

The Three Brewers find themselves top of the Division without playing a game so far this
season.
Both the Admiral Cunningham and The William Twigg [b] have failed to field teams against
The Brewers.
This is not the fault of the Brewers who I am sure would of rather of played the matches against
these two teams.

The Admiral Cunningham will be investigated this week, and we will see what is going on with
that team.

Both the Boot teams and the Bridge House [a], have all had reasonable starts to the season,
and will be hoping to push on from here to make some impact in this division.

Division Two

The Golden Farmer have got off to a flyer in Division Two, with two straight wins over
The Woodcutters and The Royal Oak.
The Farmer now face a tricky trip to fellow newcomers to the BAPL, The Bull, where they will
be hoping to maintain their 100% record.

The Bull, I am sure will have other ideas.

The Newtown Pippin [b] have also started well with 2 straight wins, and will be looking to
bounce straight back to the, First Division, at the first time of asking.

There have also been promising starts for, POW, Village Inn, Woodcutters, The Bull and the
Crown Wood Social Club.

LEAGUE MATCH RULES

For the benefit of any of the new teams in the BAPL and to save any confusion over the
Match Rules which are played on Match Nights.

The BAPL, play to the WORLD RULES.

The BAPL are affiliated to the EPA [English Pool Association] who's official rules are,
The World Rules.

A set of match rules will be dropped off to your pub/club asap, or sometime this week.

In the meantime, you can download a set of, The World Rules, from the EPA website

If you have any problems or queries with any of the rules then please contact us - www.BRACKNELLASCOTPOOL.COM of mailto:davecueboy@aol.com

and we will be more than happy to come to your pub/club one evening, and go through the
rules with you, on your own pool table, so that they are explained more clearly to you.

If you prefer, call or text -

Dave 07961 513457 or Spike 07552 163797

BRACKNELL INTERLEAGUE 2012 SEASON

Players who have been selected for any of the Bracknell Squads will be contacted some time
over the next week or so.

Last season the BAPL managed to put together 3 Interleague teams, which is the most any
league in the Berkshire set up has managed to achieve.

This is the only time of the year when the players can be changed from squad to squad.

It is also the time of the year when captains are chosen to run one of the Bracknell squads
throughout the Interleague season.

Please note/remember, players who are chosen to play for Bracknell will be required to
re-new their EPA Registrations.

As far as I am aware this will be £12.00, the same as last year.

PREMIER LEAGUE STAT SHEETS

By now all of the teams in the Premier League should of received a,
BAPL STAT SHEET PACK.

The Stat Sheets should be filled in during each match of the Winter League season.

This will help the BAPL to keep track of players team appearances and will then be filed
by the BAPL

This is now compulsory as BAPL now need to keep track of players league appearances
so they can be presented at any time to either the, Berkshire County Pool Association or
The EPA.

If your have any problems or queries, please contact, BAPL committee member,
Mick Worsfold, who will be dealing with the Player Stat Sheets throughout the
Winter Season.

PRESENTATION NIGHT

The Presentation Night for last Summer and Winter has again been forced to be put back
to a later date.

The BAPL committee were hoping to get this arranged for the end of the Summer Season.

Unfortunately, due to the committees work commitments, we simply did not find the time
to do this.

Committee member, Tommy Brookman, has now taken over the responsibility of the
ordering of the trophies.
This will hopefully be done sometime this week and the trophies will be ready within the next
couple of weeks or so.

The BAPL, would like to apologise to anyone who is waiting for their trophies to be
presented to them.

SINGLES & DOUBLES COMPS

The draws for the first rounds of the Singles and Doubles competitions will take place soon.

For the benefit of any new players who wish to enter these competitions.

These competitions are run by the BAPL for the benefit of any player who is registered to a
BAPL team in the Winter League.

The Competitions are run throughout the Winter Season, where the winning players names
are pulled out of a hat at the beginning of each round.

The winners then progress into the next round up until the final

These are very popular competitions, which gives the lower divisional players a chance to
have a crack at the higher divisional players, which in some cases cause major upsets.
It is also a very effective way of getting yourself noticed in the BAPL and getting yourself,
fast tracked into one of the Bracknell Interleague teams.

For any players who have not entered yet but who would like to enter, please either call -
Dave 07961 513457 or Spike 07552 163797
or you may download an entry form off of the BAPL website and send it, with your entry
payment to -

There will also be a Ladies KO competition this season, if we have enough interest.

So if there are any budding lady players who would like to win themselves a trophy,
please download yourselves an entry form from the BAPL Website and send to the
above address.

Please use the – Singles – entry form.

Deadline – Sunday 4th December [Thats next week]

Runners will be published on this page.

BAPL A.G.M

Please note that the BAPL will be holding an A.G.M at the end of the Winter Season.

This will be an open meeting, where the captains of every team in the BAPL will be able
to discuss any views, concerns or topics within the BAPL.

Please note that it will be compulsory that every captain of every team in the BAPL
attends this A.G.M

More info on this will be published throughout the season.

BAPL CONSTITUTION

A new BAPL constitution will be available for everyone to view.

This is being put together now, by the BAPL committee, and should be ready to be published
on this website within a week or so.

NEW BAPL DISCIPLINARY PAGE

Its always looks good to have your name or team published on the BAPL website, but this will
not be a page where you will want to see it.

This will be a new page where all of the naughty boys [and girls] will be published.

Thankfully there are not many of them.

Players who have been disciplined by the BAPL, or players/people who are not welcome in the
BAPL.

Their names will be on this page.

Please note that The BAPL take no pleasure in having to publish this page, but do feel that it
is necessary.

This page should be available to view sometime during the week.

SUMMER LEAGUE 2011

Summer League Final

The Summer League Final was played between The Crown Wood and The Twigg Gypos.

The Gypos retained the Summer League title, but only just.

In a very tight game, it went right to the wire and the teams couldn't be separated after
12 frames of pool.

At 6-6 the match went into a decider, where Crown captain Steve Johnson looked to be on for a
break and dish to win it for his team

Unfortunately he broke down with only a couple of balls remaining.

Gypos, Kev Bassett used his experience to clear the table and bring home the Summer League
for the Twigg Gypos

WINTER LEAGUE 3 DIVISIONS
The BAPL is proving as popular as ever, with 28 teams entering for this seasons
Winter League.

We will be having three Divisions this season as, 1, we have so many teams entering
the league, and 2, we need to cut the Winter season down slightly, so that we can finish
the Winter season a little earlier, so as to make a bit more room for the Summer League.

WINTER LEAGUE TO START NEXT WEEK – 17/11/11
Right then, where were we?

All teams please note that the start of the BAPL Winter League has had to be put back by
one week.

We will now be starting the season on Thursday 17th November.

This is because some teams have entered late, and this has caused chaos with the fixtures.

We had hoped to have the Winter fixtures out and on the site by tonight.

This would had given teams time to prepare for their first game.

Entries are still being taken for the Winter League, so there is still time if you would like to
enter a team/s.

Please try to have your entries in by this weekend.

All Flyers for the Winter League were put out to around 60 pubs and clubs a couple of weeks ago.

The teams who have entered will be published on this page throughout this week.

Receipts for team entries will be sent out by post to your pub or club soon after the season starts.

Any problems or queries call either –Dave - 07961 513457 or Spike - 07552 163797

TWIGG BAPL WIN MAIDENHEAD FINAL

The Bracknell, Twigg BAPL team, who play in the Maidenhead League, won the Maidenhead Summer
League Final on Monday evening, when they beat, The Thatched Cottage [b] 7-4

The Twigg team were hoping for a re match against the Lady Haig, in the fianl, after the farce of the
CoC Qualifier which was played a few weeks ago.

Without a, Grass, running around stitching up his own Bracknell team mates, it could have been a good
match.

Unfortunately, The Haig didn't progress past the Semi Finals against the Thatch.

Maybe next time Mr H??

In the final itself, the Bracknell side were well up for the finally of the season.

The Thatch fielded a reasonably strong team and after the first 6 games, we were all square at 3-3.

The Twigg BAPL felt that if chances had been taken, we could have been 5-1 up. But credit to the
Thatch who hung on in there.

In the second half theBracknell lads moved up a gear or two, and from 4-4, went on to take the next
3 games to take the Maidenhead Summer title back to the BAPL.

Congrats to all the BAPL players involved.

Mick Worsfold, Spike, Shane Cuthbert, Nick Carr, Dave B, Kev Bassett, Fonzy and Craig Allsop.
